How emc is responding to industry shifts from AI adoption and the threat of misinformation
Results from the annual emc user survey, focused on Healthcare Professionals' (HCPs') searching habits, opinions on medicines information resources, and thoughts on how patient support is changing.
Since becoming the UK’s first electronic repository of medicines information in 1999, emc has become a leading resource for healthcare professionals (HCPs) in their day-to-day work. The annual emc user survey has therefore been important in identifying HCPs' needs and shaping the future of accessible, accurate and up-to-date medicine safety information.
In 2026, Datapharm surveyed more than 2,100 users of emc, including over 1,000 HCPs. Read the full report to learn about what this audience values most when accessing medicines information, and their information-seeking behaviours.
Key findings:
-
An AI trust gap: only 15% of HCPs rate generative AI as very reliable for medicines information, compared with 29% of patients and the public.
-
Making sure verified and trusted information shows first: emc is making its regulated content easier for AI tools and search engines to find, so that AI answers are more often grounded in verified information.
-
An emc for the future: From faster product page search and change notifications to NHS Federated Login, emc is evolving to help users get to the right medicines information, quicker.
